Not really sure what bias you’re accusing me of here, unfortunately we only have estimated cases and deaths of Spanish influenza because, as I’m sure you’ll appreciate, the responsible virus hadn’t even been identified, let alone a test designed for during the pandemic. The statistic in question is from the CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/1918-pandemic-h1n1.html

The H1N1 virus responsible for Spanish influenza wasn’t identified and sequenced until almost a century later. It’s a great story you can read more about here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2391305/
